Mississippi College softball head coach Brooke O’Hair is pleased to announce that the program has signed three student-athletes during the early-signing period.
The Lady Choctaws are coming off the winningest season in school history and a National Christian College Athletic Association national championship in 2016. MC went 39-19 with an 18-15 mark in the Gulf South Conference and outscored opponents 46-10 en route to a 5-0 record at the NCCAA World Series.
“The foundation of every great program is successful recruiting, and I feel like we have done a great job during the early signing period,” said coach O’Hair. “Each one of these girls brings talent to the team, but more importantly, they are great fits for Mississippi College softball.”
Madi Lancaster
Pitcher/Middle Infield | 5’3
Benton, Ark. | Benton HS | Thunder Elite
Madi was an All-State and All-Conference selection in her senior season, also earning a spot on the All-State Tournament Team. Lancaster was named the Texas Nationals MVP in 2016, earning the Lowest ERA and Best Teammate Award. She also helped lead her team to the 2014 state championship.
What Coach O’Hair had to say: “Madi can contribute to this team in multiple ways. She can pitch, play on the infield and is a threat at the plate from both sides. She has great knowledge of the game, and we are looking forward to watch her development through the coming years”
Kiley Longmire
Infield | 5’1
Knoxville, Tenn. | Powell HS | White Lightning, Team Knoxville
Kiley was a four-year starter at Powell HS, earning All-State honors as a junior and being named an All-District performer twice. She was given the Golden Glove Award as a freshman and sophomore and won the Big Bat Award as a junior. Longmire hit .536 with 10 home runs, 56 RBI and a .586 on-base percentage in her junior season.
What Coach O’Hair had to say: “Kiley is an exceptional athlete. She is great at third base with an exceptional glove and high ability at the plate. She has the potential to come in and make an immediate impact on this team. Kiley has been committed to this program for years, and we are excited that she will finally be a Choctaw next season.”
Kayla Murphy
Infield/Outfield | 5’3
Olive Branch, Miss. | DeSoto Central HS | Blue Angels
Kayla was a three-time All-District performer and was named to the All-Conference and All-State teams as a senior. She was also named an All-Star and the team MVP in 2016, while being named to the Pepsi Best of the Preps Memphis Metro area.
What Coach O’Hair had to say: Kayla is an extremely smart player both offensively and defensively. She has the ability and speed to read the defense and lay down a drag bunt for base hits, as well as, take extra bases when the situation presents itself. She will come in and battle for the second base position, and we are excited to see what type of role she will earn.
The Lady Choctaws open the 2017 season in the first week of February as they head to Gulf Shore, Alabama to compete in the Gulf Shores Tournament, hosted by Spring Hill College.
