Travis Tilton Rushing, 80, of Crystal Springs, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on August 30, 2026, at his home. He was born on June 15, 1946, in Georgetown, Mississippi, to Sammie Tilton Rushing and Thelma Lee Welch Rushing. Travis graduated from Pinola High School in 1964. Travis was a man who truly enjoyed life, especially the time he spent with his family. He was an avid sportsman who loved hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. He cherished the simple joys of life and the opportunity to make memories with those he loved. Above all, Travis was a man of deep and abiding faith.
He served as a Sunday school teacher for 60 years, faithfully sharing God’s Word and encouraging others in their walk with Christ. He walked his faith each day and openly shared his love of Jesus with those around him. Travis spent countless hours in Bible study, with an extensive and particular interest in the Book of Revelation. His life reflected his belief that he should be prepared each day to meet his Savior. Travis’s faith also led him to serve others. He traveled on mission trips to India and believed strongly in the importance of local missions, dedicating time to sharing the love of Christ within his own community. His desire to serve, teach, and encourage others was an important part of the legacy he leaves behind. Travis was also a 32nd Degree Master Mason and valued the fellowship and principles of the Masonic fraternity.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Sammie Tilton Rushing and Thelma Lee Welch Rushing; his siblings, Maxine Rushing Jacks, Lois Rushing Scruggs, and Jimmy Lee Rushing; and his son-in-law Greg Maddox

Travis is survived by his wife, Nelda Rushing. He leaves behind a cherished family that includes his children, Beverly Roberts (Derwin) of Magee, Leigh Maddox of Magee, Mark Parks (Rhonda) of Braxton, and Tammy Young (Dale) of Crystal Springs. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Brandi Bankston (Jeremy), Doug Warren III (Dawn), Bailee Purser (Jacob), Melissa Case, Baritt Blount (Jonathan), Gregory Maddox (Jordan), Emileigh Cromwell (Shane), Ashley Granger (Jase), Rylee Welch (Eric), and Parker Young; and his great-grandchildren, Macie Maddox, Katelyn Miller, Brex Bankston, Colton Purser, Bella Bankston, Corbin Bankston, Bradlee Brown, Lynnex Case, Breelyn Case, Lily Maddox, Emree Granger, Carter Cromwell, Landon Maddox, Credence Blount, Lakeyn Granger, and Emree Cromwell. Two additional great-grandchildren are joyfully expected in early 2027. He is also survived by his siblings, Sammie Rushing (Elizabeth), Hugh Rushing (Judy), Arlene Jones, and brother-in-law Phil Hardwick (Carol), along with numerous extended family members and friends who were blessed by his life.
Travis leaves behind a legacy of faith, family, service, and a life devoted to his Savior. He taught the Bible, served his community, loved the outdoors, and treasured his family. His life was a testimony to the faith he lived by—always being ready to meet Jesus. Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing that Travis is now in the presence of the Savior he loved and faithfully served.
Memorial services will be held on Friday, Sept 4th, at Gallman Baptist Church in Gallman, with visitation at 5:00 p.m. and the service at 6:00 p.m. A second service will be held on Sunday, September 6, at 2:00 p.m. at Siloam Baptist Church in Magee.
