Mississippi Scholars held a planning meeting Thursday, January 24, 2019 to discuss upcoming student presentations, banquet and most importantly scholarship funding.

MS Scholars of Simpson County recognizes seniors from Magee High School, Mendenhall High School, Simpson County Academy, and Simpson County Technical Center. Each MS Scholar student is recognized with a banquet, receives a medallion to wear during graduation, and a seal that is attached to their diploma and transcript. Each year a total of 7 scholarships are awarded to students who complete the program. Copiah Lincoln Community College works closely with the Scholars program and awards 3 of the scholarship that are give. The other four scholarships come from donations of area business and individual donations. Without these donations scholarships would not be possible. The committee would love to offer more scholarships to the participants. Letters will soon be delivered to area business and we are asking to please consider donating to this great cause. Other counties have successful scholars programs and we want to move our program to that level.

The Mississippi Scholars Initiative is an education program managed by the Public Education Forum of Mississippi, which utilizes business leaders to motivate students to complete a rigorous course of study in high school.  This course path gives students a boost – not just for college but for life.  The Initiative pairs trained local business leaders with classes of 8th grade students.  These leaders present the students with a powerful presentation, which provides the rationale for the recommendation that students take more rigorous course.
