The Magee High School baseball team suffered a tough loss Tuesday night to Raleigh.

Facing one of the best players and pitchers in the division, Shamar Page, Magee came out swinging and managed to work the pitch count on Page.  After a scoreless first inning and a Magee player getting picked off at first base killing the team momentum, the Trojans began a battle.  Magee scored three runs in the top of the second on a hit by Seth Russell.  A costly error by Raleigh scored Russell.  Dearrius Gray was on second base when Jade Chatman hit a two-run home field over the left field fence.  Magee took a 3-0 lead into the bottom of the 3rd inning but gave up two hits and an error allowing Raleigh to get on the scoreboard.    Magee answered back in the 4th inning by scoring two more runs on double by DeArrium Gray and Caleb Brown.  Magee added one more run in the 5th inning by lead off hitter, Aimon Chisholm.

Raleigh answered back by scoring three runs in the bottom of the 5th by getting three hits and scoring on a pass ball.  Magee added one more run in the top of the 7th with Jaden Chatman picking up his third RBI of the night by scoring Seth Russell who led off the inning with his third hit of the night.

Magee allowed Raleigh to score four run in the bottom of the seventh on two walks, one hit-by-pitcher, two errors, and a balk to end the game.

According to Coach Eubanks, “we didn’t finish the game!  We still have to learn how to put teams away and finish games.  We also have to throw strikes with a lead…you cannot walk or hit batters nor have costly errors when you have a four-run lead.”

The game was a tough loss for the Trojans.  Eubanks said, “you either win or learn.  We will learn from this and get back to work to prepare for the next game.  Our guys played hard, we just can’t get over that hump of consistently hitting and putting teams away.”

Coach went on to say,” We are still hitting the ball well, but we had eleven strikeouts and left nine runners on base.  We also got picked off twice at first base due to a lack of focus.  That is what I mean when I say put teams away…we have to have those clutch hits and score those nine runs.”

“Don’t count us out,” Eubanks went on to say, we will use this as motivation to get focused and better prepared for the next games.”

Magee is  9-7 overall and 3-2 in district play.  The next game is at Magee against Raleigh on Friday, March 31st.  JV begins at 4:30 and varsity at 6:30. Magee will travel to Mize on Saturday for a varsity only game at 2.

The Trojans play home games at the Magee Sportsplex.
