CLINTON, Miss. — Mississippi College All-American Caitlin Hayes has signed a professional contract with Barcelona FA of the Cypriot First Division and will join the team for the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

Hayes (Warrington, England) was a First Team All-American in 2017, helping lead the Lady Choctaws to a Gulf South Conference co-championship and the #1 seed in the NCAA Division II South Regional. It was the first-ever appearance for the women’s soccer team in NCAA postseason.

In her career, Caitlin was a two-time NSCAA and D2CCA All-South Region selection, also earning First Team All-GSC honors in her junior and senior seasons. She played in 68 games with 67 starts, leading MC to a 52-20-8 record over four seasons and two appearances in the GSC Championship game.

“We are so proud of Caitlin and not the least bit surprised,” said MC women’s soccer head coach Darryl Longabaugh. “She has worked so hard for this, and it’s paying off. God has great plans for her, and we’re excited to see those plans unfold.”

Hayes scored 20 goals with eight assists and paced a defense that allowed just 74 total goals in four seasons, including just 30 in her junior and senior seasons. She ranks 6th in school history with eight game-winning goals in her career.

Barcelona FA is one of 60 teams from 48 different associations that will enter 2018-19 UEFA Women’s Champions League with 40 starting the competition in the qualifying round draw on June 22nd. The qualifying round will take place August 7-13 with 12 teams advancing to the Round of 32 in September.

This will be Barcelona FA’s first appearance in the qualifying round, and they currently sit atop the Cypriot First Division with a record of record of 17-0-1, scoring 142 goals with just five goals allowed.
