The Magee Chamber of Commerce brought business and politics together Thursday morning with “Breakfast and the Ballot,” giving community members an opportunity to hear directly from the four candidates seeking the Mississippi House District 77 seat.
The September 10 breakfast began bright and early at 7 a.m. at the Magee Civic Center, with local leaders, business owners and community members gathering for breakfast, conversation and a look at issues important to District 77.
The special election follows the death of longtime District 77 Representative Price Wallace. Four candidates have qualified for the November 3 special election: Christopher “Chris” Dunn, Dianne McNair Gaddis, Melissa C. Sullivan and Craig T. Williams, according to the Mississippi Secretary of State’s official candidate list.
All four candidates participated in Thursday morning’s program.
Chamber President Tyler Cheramie led the discussion, asking questions that allowed each candidate an opportunity to share viewpoints and ideas. Questions were also taken from those attending the breakfast.
The gathering was not designed as a campaign rally for any one candidate, but rather as an opportunity for voters to hear from all four individuals seeking to represent District 77 and learn more about their positions before going to the polls.
Events such as Breakfast and the Ballot also give citizens an opportunity to become more involved in the process. Local and state decisions can have a direct effect on businesses, schools, roads, public safety and communities, making it important for voters to know the people seeking to represent them.
The Chamber thanked everyone who attended, including local leaders, community members, businessmen and businesswomen, as well as each of the candidates for participating.
The morning offered plenty of conversation and an opportunity to exchange ideas—something that is important in any community. Bringing people together, asking questions and listening to different viewpoints can help voters make informed decisions when Election Day arrives.
The House District 77 special election will be held Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
