George L. Magee was born on November 21, 1941, in Jefferson Davis County to Billy Rufus and Bobbie Garner Magee. Having grown up in the Clem Community, he attended school there until 8th grade. After graduating from Prentiss High School, George furthered his studies at Pearl River Community College, where he played basketball, as he did in high school. He subsequently attended the University of Southern Mississippi, where he studied Physical Education.

After college, George began working at Broadfoot Construction, where he discovered his passion for dozer work. His career later took a defining turn as he began logging alongside his brother, Reggie. Following this, George and his brother ventured into farming, successfully raising row crops and later expanding their endeavors to include cattle and poultry, which flourished under the stewardship of Magee Brothers Farms and Magee Cattle and Grain.

His commitment to agriculture was reflected in his substantial contributions to the community. George served for over 25 years on the Board of Directors of the Magee Co-Op, where he was a respected figure known for his knowledge and leadership. In addition to his agricultural pursuits, George was a dedicated member of the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, serving faithfully as a deacon and reinforcing his deep ties to faith and community service.

Outside of farming and cattle management, George found happiness in the simpler pleasures of life. He was an avid hunter, and especially enjoyed the camaraderie he shared in hunting with his neighbors. His love for the outdoors was further exemplified by the time spent on his dozer, doing dirt work, which brought him much satisfaction.

Mr. Magee’s life was defined by hard work, dedication, and a genuine love for his family, his Lord, the land he cultivated, and the community he cherished.

He is preceded in death by his father, Billy Rufus Magee, who died in WWII; his mother and step-father, R.G. and Bobbie Garner; his sister, Charlene Magee; and his brother-in-law, Freddie Hutton.

His memory will forever be cherished by his beloved wife of 62 years, Naomi Magee of Mt. Olive; his daughter, Cherry Craft (Sonny) of Mendenhall; his sons, Larry Magee (Missy) of Mt. Olive, Shane Magee (Angel) of Hattiesburg, Britt Magee (Brittney) of Mendenhall; his brother, Reggie Magee (Peggy) and his sister, Martha Hutton, both of Mt. Olive. The legacy of their Paw will also live on through his grandchildren, Blake Magee, Cody Craft (Kaitlin), Dylan Craft (Elizabeth), Saige Magee, Nikki Magee, Elizabeth Magee, Carlie Dunaway (Dylon), Benji Magee (Shylah), Buckley Magee (Kaitlin), Britton Rollins, Zac Rollins; his great-grandchildren, Carter Craft, Kash Henderson, Caroline Craft, Cora Craft, Owen Craft, Beckham Magee, Wyatt Magee, Violet Craft and a precious expected great-granddaughter, Ruthie Claire Dunaway.
