Thomas “Toby” Kiley Gates Obituary
Thomas Kiley Gates, known as Toby by many, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at his residence. Toby was born on November 9, 1943, to his parents, William Thara Gates and Debbie Lee Robinson Gates, in Puckett, MS.
He attended Puckett High School and had a wonderful childhood with his five other siblings. He joined the National Guard at the young age of 18 and took great pride in serving his country. He married the love of his life, Julie Terry Gates and they were happily together for over 32 years until her passing in 2003.
Toby is survived by his brother, Wendall Gates; his sister, Virginia Gail Gates McCann, and a host of nieces and nephews and numerous friends.
Along with his parents, Toby was preceded in death by his devoted wife, Julie; brothers Farrell Miller Gates, David Robinson Gates, and sister, Mary Ellen Smith.
A private memorial service will be held at a later date by his family.
