Failure or Success?

Failure or Success?

Have any of you experienced failure? Have you ever attempted to do something and every attempt was met with disappointment?   All of us have faced failure: we failed to get that promotion at work that we wanted, we thought this person was the “one” but it only lead to a broken heart; our children are not living the lives that we dreamed for them; our finances are a mess!   If you live long enough, you will be disappointed!

The scriptures tell us of many failures and disappointments in the lives of believers, but God used them to do his work! You have heard it before: Success is not measured by how many times we fall down, but by how many times we get back up!

Role models can be positive or negative.

Don’t put a lot of concern into what others think of you.

A wonderful example of never giving up: WD-40.

WD-40: literally stands for water displacement 40th attempt. In 1953, a fledgling company called Rocket Chemical Company and its staff of three set out to create a line of rust-prevention solvents and degreasers for use in the aerospace industry.

Working in a small lab in San Diego, California, it took them 40 attempts to get the water displacing formula worked out. But they must have been really good, because the original secret formula for WD-40® is still in use today. The product worked so well preventing rust and corrosion that several employees snuck some WD-40® cans out of the plant to use at home.

In 1969 the company was renamed after its only product, WD-40 Company, Inc.

In 1993, WD-40® was found to be in 4 out of 5 American households (it seems everyone has a can or two) and was used by 81 percent of professionals at work. Sales had grown to more than one million cans each week.

What if Mr. Larsen had stopped on the 39th attempt?

“And let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest, if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:9, NIV)

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” (Jeremiah 29:11, NIV)
