Copiah-Lincoln Community College and the Simpson County Economic Development Foundation hosted “Dine and Development” on Tuesday, October 16, 2018, at the Simpson County Campus of Co-Lin.
The event focused on the ACT WorkKeys Assessment, which helps to develp “Work Ready Communities,” which help match employees to jobs based on verified skill levels.
Simpson County is close to achieving “Certified Work Ready County” status, hoping it will soon reach the benchmark goals established by ACT for the number of people obtaining certification and the number of businesses signing letters of support for the initiative in Simpson County.
After Copiah-Lincoln Community College President Dr. Jane Hulon welcomed guests to the event, Angela Berch, Workforce Center Director with Copiah-Lincoln Community College spoke to those in attendance.
Berch encouraged employers to participate in the ACT WorkKeys Assessment because once an employer signs to participate each job applicant will be tested before they are hired to determine in which skills area each individual might excel. The assessment cost employers nothing.
Copiah-Lincoln Community College’s goal is to get all counties within their district Work Ready Certified. Copiah, Lincoln, Lawrence and Adams county are all Certified. Simpson is 93% complete, Franklin is 84% complete, and Jefferson is 73% complete.
If your business is interested in becoming Work Ready, please contact Angela Berch angela.berch@colin.edu at Co-Lin or the Simpson County Development Foundation at 601-847-2375.
