In Loving Memory of Stephanie McLendon Hankins
Stephanie McLendon Hankins passed away peacefully on August 6, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family and dearest friends who meant so much to her. She was born on December 28, 1967, in Jackson, Mississippi, to Gary McLendon and Jean Skinner McLendon. Stephanie lived a life defined by love, kindness, faith, and devotion to her family and friends. She had a gentle and caring spirit and a special ability to make those she loved feel valued and supported.
Stephanie graduated from William Carey College and earned her education degree. She went on to become a teacher and taught at Simpson Academy for many years. Through her dedicated work, she touched the lives of many students and their families. Stephanie was also proud to be a part of building and managing the family’s business, Bop’s Frozen Custard in Magee, where she enjoyed serving the community.
Stephanie found tremendous joy in the simple blessings of life. For more than 20 years, she was a cherished member of her beloved Bunko group, The Dice Dolls. The friendships she formed there became a treasured part of her life. She also had a love for music, and it was often the little things – good music, time with friends, and laughter that brought her happiness.
But above all else, Stephanie’s greatest love was her family. She gave herself wholeheartedly to those she treasured. When her father became ill, Stephanie cared for him with extraordinary devotion. Her joy in life was being a mother and grandmother. She loved and adored her two sons, Ryan and Josh, and her beautiful granddaughter, Ellie. They were not simply part of her life – they were at the very heart of it.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Gary and Jean McLendon. She leaves behind her beloved sons, Ryan Grubbs and Josh Hankins, and daughter-in-law, Brittany; her precious granddaughter, Ellie; her brothers, Chris McLendon and Jim McLendon, along with numerous family members and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.
The family would like to extend their deepest and most heartfelt gratitude to Vicky Watts, Stephanie’s devoted caregiver, whose compassion, patience, kindness, and loving presence brought comfort and peace to Stephanie and her family. The family also wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Faith Kennedy and the entire staff of Strong River Villa for the wonderful care they provided, and a special thank you to Accent Hospice Care for their support and care.
Stephanie will be deeply missed, but her love will remain – a quiet and lasting presence in the lives of those she leaves behind.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Stephanie’s life on Sunday, August 9, 2026, at Tutor Funeral Home in Magee, MS, from 12:00 until 2:00 PM. The service will begin at 2:00 PM in the chapel with Bro. Paul Barnard officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery, Hwy 28 W in Mendenhall, MS.
