Spraggins, Platt win Jr. High Math competition

WESSON – Ryan Skates and Alex Dale, both of Natchez Cathedral Middle School captured first place in the seventh and eighth grade divisions respectively, in the District Mississippi Council of Teachers of Mathematics Junior High Math Contest held recently on Copiah-Lincoln Community College’s Wesson Campus.
Other eighth grade winners included Riley Smith of Wesson, second place; Will Sutton of Rod Paige Middle School, third place; Mason Kennedy of Simpson Academy, Danna Roses of Enterprise Attendance Center, and Julianna Crosby of West Lincoln, fourth place tie; and Natalia Tavarez of New Hebron, fifth place.
Other seventh grade winners were Ramsey Jones of Simpson Academy, second place; Spencer Maxwell of West Lincoln, Hib Johnson of Topeka-Tilton, and Wyatt Hodges of Loyd Star, third place tie; Regan Beth Bullock of New Hebron, Hanna Kelly of Loyd Star, and Landon Chapman of Mendenhall, fourth place tie; and Bre Westbrook of Wesson, fifth place.
Over 56 students from 14 junior high schools in the Co-Lin district attended the contest. Schools participating included, Brookhaven Academy, Topeka Tilton Attendance Center, Bogue Chitto Attendance Center, Rod Paige Middle School, New Hebron Attendance Center, Enterprise Attendance Center, West Lincoln Attendance Center, Mendenhall Junior High, Magee Junior High, Robert Lewis Magnet School, Simpson County Academy, Wesson Attendance Center, Natchez Cathedral Middle School, and Loyd Star Attendance Center.
First and second place district winners will represent Co-Lin in state level contest at Mississippi College. The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Math Division coordinates the annual event.
