Tommie Lou Hutson Cole
(10/15/1938 – 11/3/2023)

Tommie Lou Hutson Cole, 85, passed away on November 3, 2023 at Hillcrest Nursing Center. A lifelong resident of Magee, Tommie Lou was born on October 15, 1938 to Thomas Ward Hutson and Lola Reed Hutson.

After graduating from Magee High School, she married Harles D. Cole. Two children were born to this union. While working as an assistant teacher, Tommie Lou returned to school earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Education at The University of Southern Mississippi. She was a kindergarten teacher at Magee Elementary School for several years, and after retiring from the Simpson County School District, she taught at Simpson County Academy.

Mrs. Cole was a member of Christ Fellowship Church of Magee (formerly First United Methodist Church). She was also a charter member of Alpha Chi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, honorary society for women educators.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 5, 2023 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, 302 8th Ave SW, Magee, Mississippi. Funeral services will take place on Monday, November 6, 2023 at 10:00 am at Colonial Chapel Funeral Home. Mrs. Cole will be laid to rest beside her husband in a private graveside service at Pine Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Magee. Rev. Tony McDonald will officiate. Colonial Chapel Funeral Home of Magee is in charge of arrangements. 601-849-5031

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harles Daniel Cole, Sr.; and a sister, LaVera Hutson Smith.

Survivors include her son, Harles Daniel Cole, Jr; daughter, Cynthia Cole Keith; son-in-law, Robert Michael Keith; nephew, Rev. Robert P. Smith (Lori); and two great nieces.

Music will be performed by Joni Wade Harper.
