Emogene (Boone) Womack passed away August 26, 2026. She was born October 31, 1932 in White Oak, Mississippi, to parents Eugene and Mae Boone. Visitation will be held from 10:00am until the service at 12:00pm at Colonial Chapel Magee. A Private Burial will be held at the Mississippi Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Newton, MS.

Emogene was married to Virgil Paul Womack after a whirlwind romance of 2 weeks. They were married for 71 years until his death in 2023. Emogene was a homemaker until 1970, when she began working at the Smith County Tax Assessor’s Office in Raleigh, MS. She loved meeting people, laughing and talking with everyone. She never met a stranger, and would make you feel at home.

Emogene went on to work for the Smith County Superintendent’s Office, where she was the bookkeeper for the federal programs. She continued working as a bookkeeper for Currie Trucking and Ashley Trucking, where she retired. The people she met were to become lifelong friends, and extended family members.

Emogene was a faithful member of White Oak Baptist Church where she was the oldest member at 93 years of age.

In 1979, Emogene met a baby boy who would become like a grandson to her, Tom Miles.

Emogene is preceded in death by her parents, Eugene Boone and Mae (Means) Boone, and her husband and best friend of 71 years, Virgil P. Womack.

Survivors include her daughter, Deborah Blackmon; son-in-law, Joe Blackmon of Magee, MS; and grandson, Tom Miles of Forest, MS.

Honorary pallbearers will be: George Boone, Joey Boone, Jimmy Paul Means, Jim Overby, Jerryl Derrick, and Chuck Turnbull.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nurses and staff of Lakeview Place of Magee for all the love and care she received, to Kaey Cannon of AccentCare, who took care of my parents for many years, and to Dr. Pruitt and his staff.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to White Oak Baptist Church, 9746 Hwy 18 West, Magee, MS 39111, or to your favorite charity.
