Simpson County Sheriff’s Office Investigating Multi-Site Shootings; Public Assistance Urgently Requested
SIMPSON COUNTY, MS – The Simpson County Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with local municipal police departments, is actively investigating a series of violent shootings that occurred across the county between the late-night hours of Friday, August 28, and the early morning hours of Saturday, August 29, 2026. These incidents have left two individuals deceased and others injured.
The timeline of the incidents is as follows:
• Dan George Road Shooting: On August 28, 2026, at approximately 10:09 PM, Simpson County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a shots-fired call on Dan George Road. Prior to deputies arriving, an injured male victim was transported by family and friends to Magee General Hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds.
• Goodwater Community Shooting: On August 29, 2026, at approximately 12:49 AM, deputies assisted the Magee Police Department with a shooting incident in the Goodwater community. This incident resulted in the death of one male victim and left multiple other individuals wounded.
• Bridgeport Road Drive-By Shooting: At approximately 2:12 AM, deputies responded to a drive-by shooting on Bridgeport Road in the Pinola area. One victim sustained a single gunshot wound and was transported by family to an out-of-county hospital for treatment.
• Ella Walker Road Drive-By Shooting: At approximately 2:26 AM, a second drive-by shooting was reported on Ella Walker Road in Mendenhall. This incident resulted in property damage, but fortunately, no injuries were reported.
The Simpson County Sheriff’s Office understands that citizens may feel hesitant or uncomfortable providing formal statements to law enforcement, particularly in crowded settings or close proximity to others. However, community cooperation is absolutely vital to advancing these criminal investigations, preventing future violence, and protecting lives and property.
Investigators are urgently appealing to anyone who may have witnessed any of these incidents, observed suspicious vehicles in these areas, or possesses home surveillance or dashcam footage to come forward. Any information, no matter how small, could be invaluable to these active cases.
Anyone with information is strongly encouraged to contact the investigating agencies immediately:
• Simpson County Sheriff’s Office: 601-847-2921
• Magee Police Department: 601-849-2366
• Mendenhall Police Department: 601-847-2641
The investigations remain ongoing, and further updates will be released as verifiable details become available.

Magee Shooting Claims One Life, Leaves Three Others Injured

An early-morning shooting on McLaurin Drive in Magee left one young man dead and three other people injured Saturday.

The Magee Police Department was called to the area at approximately 12:44 a.m. on August 29. When officers arrived, they learned that four individuals had suffered gunshot wounds.

Some of the injured had already been taken for medical care by family members. Police found another victim at the scene with a serious wound. Officers used a tourniquet to slow the bleeding before rushing the victim to a hospital in a police vehicle.

Cedric Norwood, 21, died following the shooting.

Norwood’s sister, Nonda Collins, spoke with 16 WAPT about the loss, describing her brother as both her backbone and her best friend.

Collins said their cousin, Kentrell McNair, was also among those injured. He remains hospitalized, and the family has been told his injuries could leave him paralyzed.

The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation Crime Scene Unit is working alongside Magee Police as evidence is collected and the circumstances surrounding the shooting are reviewed.

Authorities have not announced any arrests or released information about potential suspects. Police Chief Denis J. Borges said further details will be shared as the investigation allows.

Sue Note:

My heart breaks when I receive any news about a shooting…and then for someone to be killed…just awful.  I grieve for the families.  Losing a loved one is something you never get over.

But what is driving the use of guns?  What happened to just arguing?  There seems to be no value to life.  We, as a community, cannot just turn our backs on the problems.  For our city and county to thrive, we all need to join forces for change.  Our churches must step up and address the problems.  I thought Mission Magee was a great start…let’s just keep on the mission field.   We have an awesome, solid police force.  As Randy Crawford, former police chief, told me years ago, we need the people of our city to be the “eyes” to make a difference.  Share what you know…be the eyes that can make a difference.

As information is released, I will share.
