The Simpson Count Board of Supervisors met Monday, February 1, 2021 for their regular scheduled meeting.

The road mangers report was presented and approved.

County Engineer Buddy Woolverton updated the board on the status of State Aid and LSBP Projects.

Surface Maintenance on Cato Road is at 27.41% completed. The Contractor has completed the base repairs and leveling. Project will be resealed this year.

Surface Maintenance on Mt. Zion to Shivers Road and St. Johns Road is at 36.72% completed. The contractor has completed base repairs and leveling. Project will be resealed this spring.

Bridge replacement on Sofa Road has  opened for advertising. Bids will be open Monday, March 15, 2021 at 9:00 a.m.

Grade, drain, base and surface for Star to Braxton Road is at the stage of working on assembly of P.S. & E to be mailed. Utility agreements have been mailed. The acquiring right of way can begin.

Sheriff Paul Mullins presented Percy Smith and Khalil Johnson as new hires non-certified full time jail positions. The board approved the hires.

Jerri Johnson was moved to full-time non-certified jail with board approval.

Marcus Lee Spencer, Jeremy Sandifer and Anthony Simmons were approved by the board as new part-time non-certified jail employees.

Tina Saranthus was hired  certified part-time dispatch.

The board approved for Dispatchers Minda Smith, Brandi Mitchell, Felicia Hamilton to attend Officer Involvement Shooting and Critical Incidents Class April 26 and 27th.

The board approved the notice of sale for scrap vehicles, scrap tanks, scrap metal at Howard Industry. Seals bids will be taken up to March 1, 2021 and opened at 9:00 a.m.

The board approved the lease purchase agreement with Trustmark Bank for the pothole patching machine at a cost of $110,000 for 36 months 1.3%.

Membership approval was grated for Supervisor Mitchell Chatman in the MAS-Minority Caucus at a cost of $200.00.

Scott Overby met before the board asking for a tax cut for Tuscan Towers. When the owner purchased property he was mislead to the amount of tax cost. Taxes went from $45,000 to $113000. Previous owners had a tax exemption that was at the end of the time cycle, plus contract was voided due to change of ownership. The board advised the owner there was no tax cut allowed at this time.

  • Monday, March 1, 2021 – Regular Meeting
  • Monday, March 15, 2021 – Recessed Meeting
  • Monday, April 5, 20021 – Regular Meeting
  • Wednesday, April 14, 2021 Recessed Meeting

Holidays: 

  • President’s Day Holiday – Monday, February 15, 2021.

No further business meeting was recessed.
