Simpson Central School recently received a special visit from Grammy Award-nominated artist and “America’s Got Talent” contestant Saul Paul, as part of his “Be the Change” Tour.

On Wednesday, Sept. 7, Paul visited Simpson Central to share his life story and life lessons during two presentations shared with students in kindergarten through fourth grade and students in fifth through eighth grade. Paul encouraged and motivated the students while also interacting with them through dance and music.

Simpson Central was one of 100 schools selected to participate in the tour for free, thanks to an opportunity discovered by school counselor Crystal Brewer, who saw Paul perform at a conference and wanted a chance for her school to experience him as well.

“I was inspired by his personal story of overcoming obstacles to achieve the success he has today,” said Brewer. “He was engaging and inspiring, and I knew his life lessons were something that our students at SCS could benefit from hearing.”

Both students and teachers enjoyed having Paul at Simpson Central and noted how moving he was.

“I thought he was very inspiring; and it was good to hear his story and how far he had come,” said sixth-grade student Si’yunda Hobbs.

“I thought he was very relatable. I agree that you need to grab opportunities that come to you,” said eighth-grade student Kamdyn Patrick.

During the tour, Paul talked to the students about different ways they can “be a change” in the world and challenged them to “be a change” in their communities by doing good deeds.

Part rapper/part singer-songwriter, Saul Paul is an entertaining artist who blends his voice, his guitar, and his loop pedal to create a live show that is nothing less than an experience. Saul Paul shares his art with his heart and has been inspiring audiences through his music. From performing at two TEDx Talks, five Super Bowls, America’s Got Talent, SXSW, the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, and Austin City Limits, Saul Paul has performed nationally and internationally in theaters, concert venues and festivals across the country.
