There is just something special about Wagon Train time—and once again, the Mt. Olive Wagon Train is rolling down the road, headed toward the Dixie National and bringing a whole lot of history, friendship, and smiles a little closer to Jackson.
The “road” to the Dixie National officially began Sunday as the wagon train pulled out and started its destination run. I can honestly say, Wagon Train time is one of my favorite times of the year. The people involved are some of the nicest folks you’ll ever meet. Smiling faces, easy laughter, and a genuine love for tradition greet everyone who comes near. From the chuck wagon tent to the big “Cadillac version” tents, from the horse riders to those just soaking it all in—everyone is having a good time.
I’ve been blessed to be invited for many years now, and I never take that for granted. Tommy Sullivan, Dempsey Sullivan, Junior Mangum, Jack Underwood, and so many others always make me feel welcome and special, extending that invitation year after year. That kind of hospitality sticks with you.
I still remember the very first year I went. We were camped out in someone’s pasture, and I had never seen anything quite like it. It was one of the most “educational” places I had ever been—history coming to life right before my eyes. Over the years, the journey has evolved. From gathering at the National Guard Armory in Magee, to traveling up old Highway 49 and stopping across from Boswell, the routine has become part of the story. The first night is spent at Boswell, and then the real journey to Jackson begins.
I hope you’ll enjoy the pictures and take time to watch the videos. They capture more than wagons and horses—they capture friendship, tradition, and a way of life that still matters.
This, my friends, is more than a wagon train.
This is a brotherhood.
