Charlette Lynette Tallant Charged with two counts of animal cruelty & violation of a City ordinance

After being notified of the situation, Animal Control responded, and the dog shown in the photograph was removed. Our department conducted a follow up investigation, and today, Charlette Lynette Tallant, was charged with two counts of animal cruelty and a City of Magee ordinance violation involving a tethered dog.

Based on the facts, circumstances, and evidence presented at this time, these were the appropriate charges.

A second dog was also removed from the property and is currently being cared for by the City of Magee Pound. Two additional dogs at the residence appeared to be in good condition, and there was no legal basis to remove those animals at this time. Animal Control and our department will continue to monitor the situation.

We want to make it clear that when situations involving possible animal cruelty or neglect are brought to our attention, we will investigate them and take appropriate action based on the evidence and the law.

If you choose to own a dog or any other animal, you have a responsibility to properly care for that animal and provide for its health, safety, and well being. Please make sure your animals have proper food, water, shelter, veterinary care when necessary, and appropriate living conditions.

The Magee Police Department takes allegations of animal cruelty seriously.

Charges may be upgraded, reduced, remain the same, or be dismissed as additional facts and evidence are reviewed. All persons charged with a crime are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
