Robert Hilton Maddox, a lifelong resident and business owner of Magee, passed away Saturday, July 29th 2023, at the age of 72. Robert was born July 20,1951 to W. H . “Bud” and Otsie Upton Maddox of Magee.
He was a graduate of Magee High School and Copiah Lincoln Community College. He married Martha Tanner Maddox, from Mize, in 1975. He worked as a diesel mechanic for many years at Magee Brothers Tractor. He then taught diesel mechanics, for 7 years, at the Simpson County Vocational Center in Mendenhall. He returned to Magee Brothers where he became a partner, changing the name to R&M Tractor and Supply. In 1992, he and his wife Martha became sole owners of R&M where he spent the rest of days working diligently to make a strong business for his children and grandchildren to carry on. He had a love for working on Massey Ferguson tractors.
He was a member of Sharon Presbyterian Church where he served as deacon and then elder. He served as a past president of the Deep South Equipment Dealers Association. He served on the Simpson County Economic Development Board and past president of the Sharon Cemetery Association.
He is preceded in death by his father, W.H. “Bud” Maddox, mother, Otsie Upton Maddox and two brothers, Sam Maddox and Steve Maddox.
He is survived by his wife, Martha Tanner Maddox; children, Stephanie Maddox Welch (Donny) and Robert Scott Maddox (Kristy); grandchildren, Ryan, Riley, and Marlee Welch, and Mason and Brody Maddox; siblings, Pansy Maddox and Arnold Maddox (Brenda).
Visitation will be held on Monday, July 31, 2023, at Tutor Funeral Home in Magee, MS from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. The service will be at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at Sharon Presbyterian Church with interment following in Sharon Cemetery.
