A tree fell on the pipeline during a severe thunderstorm that included high winds, heavy rain and a tornado. The tree damaged the pipeline and caused a leak.

The pipeline has been shut in and the spill is being cleaned up.

All the appropriate regulatory agencies and emergency response officials have been notified including the EPA’s National Response Center, Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality, and the Simpson County emergency planning committee.

Our primary focus is to get this cleaned up as quickly and safely as possible with minimum impact on the community.

2nd press released received Wednesday night around 9:45

In the storms on Monday evening a tree fell on a section of above ground crude oil pipeline belong to Genesis Energy. An exact mouth of crude lost is yet to be determined.

The EPA, DEQ, Genesis and local officials are on scene and monitoring the cleanup efforts. WSES is also on scene working twenty four hours a day. A number of booms have been strategically placed from the point of damage downstream through Simpson County.

Precautions are being taken to lessen the impact of the escaped crude oil. There is no immediate danger to the public.
