To the citizens of Magee:
I am aware of a sign posted at a few stores in Magee that contains incorrect statements. I want to assure you that this message is an attempt to create distrust and confusion within our community. Since I took over, the Magee Police Department has been committed to moving forward with transparency, professionalism, and community engagement. We are here to serve you, and we will continue to build trust through open communication and dedicated service.
Please do not let negativity disrupt the trust in your police department. We have a strong commitment to training and professional development. I have an open-door policy, and any citizen is welcome to come speak with me at any time. If you have questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
Currently, we have two uncertified officers going through the Field Training Officer (FTO) program while awaiting their police academy start dates. These officers are always accompanied by two fully certified, experienced officers, ensuring they are never conducting duties alone.
Under my leadership, the Magee Police Department has increased its training initiatives significantly. So far this year, our officers have received more training than before, because I firmly believe that more training leads to better service for our community.
Finally, please note that the sign posted statement is not officially affiliated with the FOP or the NAACP. This is from an individual who is displeased with the fact I am the chief.
Respectfully,
Chief Denis J. Borges
