Businesswoman Julie Polk Breazeale of Hattiesburg was recently appointed as a lay member of the Commission on Judicial Performance.

Breazeale owns Polk’s Meat Products Inc. and serves as the company’s Chief Executive Officer.

Mississippi Supreme Court Chief Justice Mike Randolph appointed Breazeale on May 1 to a term which will extend through Dec. 31, 2029. Breazeale succeeded Hattiesburg businessman Edward J. Langton, who served on the Commission from January 2024 until September 2025.

The Commission on Judicial Performance investigates allegations of judicial misconduct and makes recommendations for discipline to the Mississippi Supreme Court. The Commission includes seven members and seven alternates. Commission members include two lay persons; one practicing attorney; one member each from the Circuit, Chancery, County and Justice Courts; and a like number of alternates.

Breazeale is the third generation to work in the business established by her grandfather. She started work full time as Director of Special Projects for Polk’s Meat Products after she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from the University of Southern Mississippi in December 2000. She served as Director of Scheduling Production and Transportation, Plant Manager over the plant in Magee, Director of new business development for the plant’s Food Service Division,  Director of Accounts Payable, Director of Human Resources and as Vice President and General Manager. She became CEO in 2011, and in 2022 she purchased the company. With Breazeale as the company’s sole owner, Polk’s became a certified Women’s Business Enterprise (WBENC) and certified Women-Owned Small Business (WOSB).

Breazeale earned a Master of Business Administration degree from USM in December 2007. She was honored as Young Alumnus of the Year in 2013.  She served as a board member of the University of Southern Mississippi Alumni Association, the University of Southern Mississippi Foundation and the University of Southern Mississippi Athletic Foundation. She was Chair of the Business Advisory Council for the USM College of Business. Other volunteer work included board member of United Way of Southeast Mississippi and the Simpson County Development Foundation, advisory council of Trustmark Bank and member of the Hattiesburg Junior Auxiliary.
