Max Byrd Mullins, D’Lo, MS
On Wednesday, September 5, 2019, Max Mullins, 92, passed away peacefully on his birthday at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Collins, MS.

He graduated from Pinola High School where he played basketball. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Navy at the end of World War II. He served for ten years including the Korean War before later enlisting in the United States Air Force. He attended Co-Lin where he played basketball and football. He completed his education at the University of Southern Mississippi where he is now a Golden Life Member of the Alumni Association. He began his professional career teaching at Collins High School. From there he opened his own accounting business that eventually lead him into his career as a State Farm Insurance agent for 48 years. He also fulfilled his passion of plants by owning Southern Farms Nursery. He spent many years volunteering his time for Simpson Academy sports. He enjoyed announcing, doing field maintenance and cheering on the Cougars. Because of his dedication to the baseball team, he was honored by having the baseball press box and outfield fence named after him. He was very active in his community as a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Outstanding Citizen of Mendenhall, D’Lo Lodge #230, Wahhabi Shrine, along with many other organizations.

He is survived by his two sons Winston (Kecia) and Paul (Melissa) Mullins; grandchildren, Marli Chapman (Brandon), Patrick and Crosby Mullins; Brother-in-law William Allen Lowery (Diane); his sisters Beulah Ann Hall (Clarence), Betty Ruth Mullins, Kay Jordan and a host of nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife for over 49 years, Jo L. Mullins, his parents Earnest Clifton Mullins (the late Minnie) and Elizabeth Garrett Mullins Burnham; his siblings Earnest Clifton Mullins, Jr., Garrett P. Mullins, Wilkin Mullins, Billy Mullins, Paul Dean Mullins, Teddy Jack Mullins, Sr., Sam Mullins, Catherine Mullins Lucas and Stephanie Katool.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2019, from 5:00 until 8:00 pm at Tutor Funeral Home in Mendenhall, MS. Funeral services will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2019 beginning at 2:00 pm at the D’Lo Methodist Church where he was a devoted member and music leader.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethany Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 3412 Cato Road, Braxton, MS 39044 or D’Lo Methodist Church.

Arrangements are entrusted to Tutor Funeral Home of Mendenhall.
