Lewis Whitfield McCall, Sr., known to everyone as Whit, went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, November 4, 2021, at Simpson General Hospital surrounded by his family. Whit was born on September 25, 1937, in Natchez, MS to Felon McCall and Ora (Lewis) McCall.
His family later moved to Brookhaven where he graduated from Brookhaven High. He then immediately headed to The University of Southern Mississippi (oh how he loved those Golden Eagles) where he graduated with a degree in business, later pursuing lab technology in Jackson, MS. This allowed him to practice at many hospitals throughout the state. He later joined his father at McCall’s Oilfield Service in Magee. He loved this as well and enjoyed being around all of the people affiliated with the oil field family.
Whit enjoyed all sports, but especially golf. He and his friends were known to walk up the railroad tracks many nights to play a round or two at Sanatorium Golf Course.
He was a member of First Baptist Church of Magee, where he served as a deacon and enjoyed going on many mission trips out West with fellow church members to share the love of Christ with others. He loved his Sunday school class and they had great times in “the room across the street.”  Whit hated the fact that his health prevented him in later years from being able to attend his beloved Sunday school class.
Whit loved his family and loved every moment with them. He was a loving father whose heart was bigger than anyone realized. He never met a stranger. He especially loved watching his grandsons Jacob and Hudson play baseball. Maggie, being the only granddaughter, was his fishing buddy and “his little girl.” He loved spoiling them rotten. His family will miss him dearly, but are comforted in knowing they will see him again soon.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sherrie Finch McCall, daughter, Beth McCall Moore (Lee) all of Magee and two sons, Mark Finch McCall (Brenda) of Brandon, MS, and Lewis Whit McCall, Jr. (Judy) of Maine. He was blessed with six grandchildren, Sarah Margaret (Maggie) McCall, Jacob Lockhart McCall, Hudson Finch McCall all of Brandon MS, and Morris McCall, Coleman McCall and Shepard McCall all of Maine.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Felon and Ora McCall and his brother, George Felon McCall.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday, November 7, 2021, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Tutor Funeral Home in Magee. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 8, 2021, at First Baptist Church of Magee with Bro. Buddy Keys and Bro. Jim Taylor officiating. Interment will follow at Magee City Cemetery in Magee.
Arrangements are entrusted to Tutor Funeral Home of Magee.
