⚽ WORLD CUP QUESTION OF THE DAY!

June 20, 2026

Tuesday, February 17th, I attended the Adopt-A-School meeting at the Tech Center in Mendenhall.

I’m just saying, if you have never visited the Tech Center…you need to. The grounds and buildings are spotless…there is no “commotion” in the halls…everyone is pleasant and the students open doors for visitors…greet visitors…Now, I’m not saying this doesn’t happen at other schools…I’m just saying this is the way the Tech Center operates.

Assistant Superintendent of Education Tom Duncan was in charge of the meeting…representatives from all county schools were present…reports were given by different personnel in the county.

I’m just saying “March Madness”….let the testing begin! Every other word was about the “testing” period. Monday, March 2nd the madness begins and continues almost until the end of school (May). The real kick off follows Spring Break…but have your children ready from now until May!

Volunteers are needed!!! There is just no way the teachers can administer test and keep noise down in the halls….so this is where YOU come in. Every school in the district needs volunteers…please contact one of the schools and offer your services even if it is just for an hour. I’m just saying, we want the best scores possible…help is needed.

I’ve never heard of so many different kinds of test…no way can I remember all the names…but one that was interesting to me was the MCAS test (MS Comprehensive Assessment System). The MCAS test measure the score of 3rd graders. Any child in the 3rd grade must pass this test to be promoted to the 4th grade. Presently, there is a bill in the legislature to do away with the mandatory passing of this test. (I don’t understand why)…but I’m just saying…in Simpson County 40% of the 3rd graders have failed, or are failing! My goodness…what is the deal. …and if these children don’t pass, look at what this does to the size of a 3rd grade class. (HUGE)…Mrs. Debbie Davis (County Office) has a plan in place for intervention for these children…but I’m just saying…what about the 60% who are passing…what is being done to challenge these students.

Another test that is given, “grades” each division of our school (Elementary, Middle School, & High School). When the students take this test, the score is not received until November…now how dumb it that! 3 to 4 months into the school year, the school receives it’s grade…so if you have been an F school for the past two years…you will not know until November if you are still an F school. Just saying, I do not understand testing!

I am also aware that some students, even A students, do not test well…just saying…a fact of life…and not a fair one.

On March 3rd all Simpson County juniors will take the ACT.

Dr. Woodall, Magee High School Interim Principal, was introduced and reported that a smooth transition was taking place at Magee High School following the reassignment of Principal Debra Ware to the County Office. Dr. Woodall told of ways she intended to engage top preforming students in daily routines at Magee, such as making announcements, working with other students, and reaching into the community.

Mrs. Allen, from Magee Elementary, reported on the need for volunteers at the school during test time. She gave an overview of the progress being made at the school.

Additional personal spoke…but I’m just saying…Sue can’t remember everything…and I forgot to tape the event! I’ll do better next time!

PriorityOne Bank provided refreshments. Whitney Baker was in charge.

Just saying, the Trending video is hysterical…if you like music…take time to watch

yea those instructors at the vo-tech really have it together, good for dr. Duncan to put to put the meeting together but, I am pretty sure Bo Huffman is over the vo-tech, so he and the instructors are ones needing the pat on the back. hum seems to me Magee high school might be in need of that, sometimes you never realized what you have till its gone.
