Herman Edward Walker, 84, of Magee, Mississippi, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2024. He was born on January 30, 1940, in Magee, Mississippi, to the late Grover Herman and Willis Mae Ashley Walker.
Herman was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He attended Magee High School and graduated in 1959. He married his high school sweetheart, Margaret Ann Mason, on July 4, 1961, and they shared almost 63 years of marriage.
He was the second of four children and learned the value of hard work from an early age. He started working at the age of nine at the drive-in movie theater. Herman dedicated his career to serving the community as a lineman for Mississippi Power and Light and later Entergy. He worked for the company for 38 years, retiring in 2002. He was always ready to respond to any emergency or storm, restoring power to thousands of homes and businesses. He was respected and admired by his co-workers and customers for his skill, professionalism, and dedication.
Herman is survived by his wife, Margaret Ann Mason Walker; his children, Brent Walker (Susan) and Clint Walker (Brenda); his grandchildren, Meg Walker, James Riley, John Riley, and Mason Walker. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Herman was preceded in death by his parents, Grover and Willis Mae Walker; and his sisters, Peggy Walker Prince and Sandra Walker Cook, and his brother, Paul Walker.
A funeral service will be held on May 18, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Magee. Burial will follow at the Magee Cemetery. Visitation will be held on May 17, 2024, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Magee.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Magee.
Herman will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. He was a kind, generous, and faithful man who always put his family first. He left a legacy of love and grace that will live on in the hearts of his loved ones and many friends.
