MageeNews.com is celebrating its 13th birthday today, March 18, 2020! I cannot believe I’ve been doing this for 13 years!
Who would have ever guessed a hobby like this would turn into a business.
Michael Dunn, as the Spirit of Magee, was the first “front” page story we posted! Michael received the award at the annual Chamber of Commerce Banquet!
If you know the story of MageeNews.com, you can strop reading now…but for the ones of you who do not know our story, I will share.
When I was in my early 20’s, a group of “girls” from First Baptist Church formed a mission group called the Baptist Young Women (BYW). Through the years, I would write almost every month a letter to the girls telling them about what was going on in our church and city as well as information about “the children of the group.” My sons referred to my writings as a Gossip Letter! Now really, do you think I would write a gossip letter…well yes! For years I continued to write the letters.
Following the death of my son in 2001,I was given a computer. Now, ya’ll have to realize I had no idea how to even turn on a computer and still don’t do wonderful! I began sending an email “Message from the prez’ to whomever signed up. Pretty soon there were 500 people on the email list! The email was going to many computers as spam. Everyone fussed when they didn’t get the obituary etc. My good friend Ty Meador told me, “you need to build a website.” Well, I thought Ty had lost his mind. I didn’t even know how to do Word on my computer (and still don’t very well). Ty told me “we will build it and I will teach you.” That is just what Ty did. MageeNews went live in 2013. We have evolved over the years. I think we have updated the site about six times since we began. For many years, we live streamed all the football games in the county. We have continued to expand our live stream in many areas. Charlie White and I even sold 5 templates of the website several years ago.
Here we are in 2020! I wonder what this year will bring. We look forward to more live interviews, a podcast, and more local information. I am grateful to the precious people who worked with MageeNews.com. Each of them brought something special to our website. Presently, Patrice Boykin, Charlie White…and I guess I better give Chuck Akers a little credit…keep the ball rolling.
Our readers have been so good to me in sharing information. MageeNews is truly a small business. We need all the help from the public we can get.
Located at the top blue area of the website and to the right is Archives. The Archives tab contains some old stories and information. I have found sometimes archives works and some times it doesn’t!
Ya’ll have been understanding of my “brain” issues as I fight to “pull” the right words to print as well as say in an interview. As I have aged, I have realized even more, there isn’t a lot of junk that really matters. What matters is Jesus Christ, people… love for the Lord…our witness…and kindness.
So, happy birthday to all the people who made MageeNews.com possible!
I love ya’ll.
