For a child with dyslexia, reading a sentence, spelling a word or completing a school assignment can sometimes take much more time and effort than it does for other students.
And for a parent watching that child struggle, one of the hardest questions can be:

Meet Tim Busch, founder and CEO of Pine Belt Dyslexia Services, who is bringing dyslexia services and resources to Magee and Simpson County.
Busch recently opened Pine Belt Dyslexia Services with a goal of helping children and families better understand dyslexia and providing support for students who struggle with reading and related skills.
His journey to this work wasn’t necessarily one he planned.
Busch spent 25 years in the United States Coast Guard, including 15 years working as an electrician. Along the way, however, he discovered something about himself.
He loved teaching.
“I realized that teaching was one of my loves,” Busch explained.
What began almost by chance eventually led him down a different path. Doors opened for Busch to pursue additional training and become a Certified Dyslexia Specialist.
Today, he wants to use that knowledge to help families who may be searching for answers.
“Processing is so slow for a child with dyslexia. Decoding words is tough,” Busch explained. “I learned the importance of spelling along with reading.”
Those are important words for parents to hear.
Sometimes a child who struggles with reading isn’t lazy. Sometimes a child who takes longer to complete an assignment isn’t simply “not trying.” There may be a reason the child is struggling—and understanding the problem is an important first step toward finding the right help.
Free Dyslexia Program August 29
Busch has several programs planned over the coming months that will address different aspects of dyslexia.
The first program will be held Saturday, August 29, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the Magee Library.
The meeting will provide an overview of dyslexia, including information that can help families better understand what dyslexia is and how it can affect learning.
Adults and children are invited to attend.
