Gerry L. Hancock, 77, of LaQuinta, California, died on February 2, 2023, after a lengthy battle with dementia. Gerry spent most of his life in Mississippi, and his later years traveling with his wife and youngest daughter, and eventually living in southern California. He was born and raised in Smith County, Mississippi, and as a young man, he continued to live in south Mississippi, where three of his children were born. In 1978 he met his wife, Donna, and they moved to Mize, Mississippi, where his youngest daughter was born. Gerry loved to fish and hunt and fellowship with his friends and family. Gerry was a Christian with a servant’s heart. He loved to share and give to anyone in need, and one of his favorite sayings was, “you can’t out give a giver.”

Gerry was predeceased by his parents, Vicy Mae and Dillard Hancock, his daughter Kacie Johnson, and a sister, Brenda Hancock (infant), among a host of other family members and close friends. Gerry left behind a loving wife, Donna Hancock, and three adult children, Lena Scarbrough and Eric Hancock of Mississippi; and Kimberly Hancock of California. Gerry also left behind three grandchildren, Justin Hancock, Leasa Stevison, Shauna Glenese and River Scarbrough; and several great grandchildren. Gerry was the oldest of 9 siblings, and leaves behind 7 of the most loving and loyal brothers and sisters including, John Hancock, Jo Ann Lee, Alice Stokley, Amy Herring, Jimmy Hancock, Patricia McKinney, and Nancy Bynum. He also leaves behind a passel of incredibly special cousins and other relatives. In addition to relatives, Gerry also leaves behind a number of special friends that were adopted as part of his family.

To honor Gerry’s memory, the family is hosting a celebration of his life on Saturday May 13, 2023, at Cypress Lake, 7740 Hwy 481 South Raleigh, Mississippi. A graveside service will follow at 3:30 P.M. at Waco-Fairmount Cemetery, SCR 100 Mize, Mississippi. Close friends of Gerry and the family are welcome.
