Registration for the Mississippi Secretary of State’s 2018-2019 non-partisan Promote the Vote (PTV) civic engagement program is now open: www.sos.ms.gov/PTV.  For the first year in the program’s history, the Agency is partnering with Mississippi Public Broadcasting (MPB) to bring the program to schools throughout the State.

This year’s PTV theme is “Make a Difference in Mississippi.”  The program includes a mock election featuring a realistic ballot with both U.S. Senate races and the U.S. House race pertinent to the participating school district.  The election can be conducted at any time during the month of October.

Additionally, MPB is hosting a contest for teachers for “Best Mock Election Precinct.”  Teachers are invited to decorate their classrooms in an election theme and post two pictures tagging MPB on Facebook.  MPB will award the most festive classroom a door prize.

This year’s PTV program will also include student art and essay contests, with submissions due in December, judging in January, and an awards ceremony at the State Capitol in February 2019. Top winners of the art and essay contests from specific grade-brackets and winning schools will receive awards from local banks. Last year’s ceremony was standing-room only, and a very enjoyable experience for administrators, teachers, parents, and students from across the State.

Encourage your child’s school or classroom to participate today!  For more information about PTV, visit www.sos.ms.gov/PTV.  Questions can be directed to rachel.jaeger@sos.ms.gov or (601) 359-9362.
