Circuit Court Judge Stanley Sorey on Tuesday upheld the decision of the Simpson County Election Commission that Chris May is not eligible to run for Constable for the City of Mendenhall.
The Election Commission previously ruled that May did not meet the residency requirements to qualify for the office. May challenged that decision in court.
Following Tuesday’s hearing, the court affirmed the Election Commission’s decision, leaving May ineligible to appear on the ballot for the Mendenhall constable race.
Under Mississippi law, the ruling may be appealed to the Mississippi Supreme Court.
