Co-Lin names Sullivan as Workforce Center Director
WESSON – Franklin County native and Copiah-Lincoln Community College alumnae, Stephenie Sullivan, has joined the economic development and training arm of the college as the new Workforce Center Director. Sullivan brings a broad range of expertise including business and professional development and customized leadership training.
“We are excited to have Stephenie Sullivan join us at the helm of Co-Lin’s Workforce Division,” said Co-Lin President Dr. Jane Hulon. “She will be responsible for sustaining and growing our short-term training programs that are aimed to meet immediate and projected employer needs. I have also tasked her with focusing on entrepreneurial training for our district. In Southwest Mississippi, entrepreneurship has been an area of strength and I strongly believe such training can assist in expanding workforce opportunities.”
Prior to becoming the Workforce Center Director, Sullivan honed her skills in various aspects of marketing and sales at well-known corporations including Kraft Foods, Dr. Pepper Snapple Group, and Wells Enterprises – the maker of Blue Bunny Ice Cream. Additionally, Sullivan expanded her horizon over the last two years as a sales consultant to emerging brands seeking distribution at Walmart Stores, the world’s largest retailer.
“It is an exciting time to move back to Mississippi with an opportunity to influence and contribute to the area that I proudly call home,” said Sullivan. “I look forward to sharing my knowledge and experiences to continue improving the local workforce, to provide training services to the local industry, and to attract new employers to the area.”
Sullivan received her Associate in Arts degree at Copiah-Lincoln Community College and a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Southern Mississippi. She earned a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of South Alabama and is a certified leadership trainer through the John Maxwell Leadership Certification program.
As Workforce Director, Sullivan will build on existing relationships with district employers as well as forge new partnerships. In addition, she will work with the Mississippi Community College Board, other state agencies, economic development stakeholders and local community leaders to benefit the Co-Lin district. Co-Lin has been a driving force in the initiative to become an ACT Work Ready Region. Sullivan will be instrumental in the continuance of directing services and assessments focused on achieving this designation.
“Stephanie Sullivan will be a great addition to our Workforce Education Division,” said Dean of Career, Technical and Workforce Education Brent Duguid. “She will be an asset to our already exceptional training staff, and area employers will greatly benefit from her industry knowledge.”
While she is passionate about her career, Sullivan’s philanthropic work and charitable contributions have given her the most satisfaction. Her most notable accomplishments include co-founding a mobile food ministry, At-the-Table, and fundraising for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the American Diabetes Association. Sullivan has also served as a member of Junior League and held a leadership role as Membership Chair.
The Workforce Division exists to provide skills to current and future employees desiring to acquire skills necessary for their career. During the 2019 fiscal year, Co-Lin’s Workforce Division provided training to 7,554 individuals across the college’s seven-county district, totaling 530,381 training hours. Employers received custom, affordable job training addressing their unique needs, including but not limited to safety, computer, and soft skills.
