Following the lead of former Chief of Police Chris Jones, the Board of Aldermen voted to approve a City Gun Ordinance.

The Ordinance goes into affect in thirty days.

It shall be unlawful to discharge a revolver, pistol, rifle, shotgun, or other firearm in the City of Magee, Mississippi except as follows:

Section One

1.  In lawful protection of life or property

2.  By a law enforcement officer in the lawful   performance of his or her duties.

3.  At a shooting range where the design is such as to assure that any projectile shall be fully contained within the premises of said range.  All such ranges shall be registered in accordance with applicable state or federal law and shall be inspected to assure that adequate provisions have been made to contain all projectiles within the boundaries of said range.

4.  In the manner permitted by the provisions of Section 45-9-53 of the Mississippi Code of 1972.

Section Two

Violation of this ordinance shall be a misdemeanor and shall be punished by a fine of not more than $1,000 or 90 days in jail or both.

Section Three

This ordinance shall be effective 30 days from and after passage.

The ordinance passed 5-0.
