The Scriptural passage for today is found in 1 Peter 2:9: “You are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of Him Who called you out of darkness into His wonderful light.” Again, the apostle is addressing the early Christian converts, many of whom were Jews, as well as gentiles. Jesus had come, given His life for all mankind, thus offering the free gift of salvation to everyone who would repent, believe, and accept it. As a result, the new convert became a new creature and joined the host of saints beloved of God, and, as a result, became an heir to eternal life with Christ Jesus. We today can also share that same kinship, have that same hope, by merely accepting Jesus into our hearts and lives. Don’t delay. There’s no more opportune time than right now, today. “God is calling the prodigal, come without delay. Hear, oh, hear Him calling, calling now to thee.” I do love that old hymn and often find myself singing those beloved words from the chorus.
