This weekend, college football had one of its wildest weekends ever, from Tennessee topping Alabama 52-49 to South Dakota State barely getting by rival North Dakota State 23-21. But here in Mississippi, our teams put on shows in their games through close losses and wins.

The Auburn Tigers traveled to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium to face the 9th-ranked Rebels for a heated matchup. A loss for Ole Miss would prove embarrassing. A win would be the first time Ole Miss beat the Tigers for the first time since 2015. The game was neck and neck after Ole Miss left the 1st quarter 14-0. It seemed when Ole Miss scored, Auburn did. But finally, in the 4th quarter, Ole Miss outscored Auburn and walked off with a 48-34 win. Next, the 16th-ranked MS State Bulldogs traveled to Lexington, KY, to face #22 Kentucky. The two teams put up quite a fight, going into halftime tied 3-3. However, after halftime, Mississippi State slowed down, even more, falling to the Wildcats 27-17.  Finally, Southern Miss welcomed their first Sun Belt matchup in Hattiesburg versus Arkansas State. The Red Wolves scored early in the first quarter and would lead the Golden Eagles 10-7 at halftime. Arkansas State continued to rack up another touchdown and a safety, leading Southern Miss 19-7 until the 4th quarter. In the 4th, Southern Miss came back with two touchdowns to top the Red Wolves 20-19.

In the Mississippi FCS world, one team came through with a win, while the other two fell to their opponents. Jackson State traveled to Daytona Beach to face the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats. Coach Prime and his Tigers didn’t see much trouble and walked away, winning 48-8. Next, Alcorn State traveled to Baton Rouge to face the Southern Jaguars. Topping the 4-1 Jaguars proved no easy task for the Braves, who fell 21-27. Finally, we find the winless MS Valley State Delta Devils, who went into Week 7 still looking for their first win of the 2o22 Season. The Devils traveled to Montgomery, AL, to face Alabama State and find that first win, but it was not in Montgomery as the Hornets topped Valley State 24-9.

In Division II, the Mississippi College Choctaws traveled to Valdosta, GA, to face the Valdosta State Blazers. The Choctaws were 3-3 this season and have shown their strength very well against other teams, and failed to disappoint in their 49-40 win over Valdosta State. Also, we have the no-loss Delta State Statesmen. The Statesmen faced the West Alabama Tigers at home in Cleveland Saturday. The Statesmen have performed exceptionally this season and kept rolling on with a 20-17 win over West Alabama.

As for the two Division III teams, they both had intriguing matchups this weekend as well. Belhaven traveled to Greensboro College to face the Greensboro Pride. The Blazers went to Greensboro hoping to find an easy win over the Pride and did, topping Greensboro 59-7. However, things were not as easy for the Millsaps Majors. The Majors traveled to Birmingham to face the Birmingham-Southern Panthers. But Millsaps faced another in-conference loss, falling 28-0 at the Panthers’ hands (or claws I should say.)
