The week has been busy with much information floating around the county. Rather than write a “formal” article, I am just going to share some things I’ve learned this week.

While attending an MDOT meeting concerning handling of new elementary school traffic, I learned several things:

The cost to install a railroad crossing is $325,000. For a new crossing to be installed in Magee, the railroad requires two crossing to be closed! The railroad is powerful! One works with their time line. The correct name for the bells and stuff at a crossing is “Active Warning Device.”

MDOT employees are smart people.

Everyone cares about the traffic situation at the Magee Elementary…school officials, city officials, teachers, students, parents,  grandparents, family, citizens of the county…I mean everyone!  You are loved!

Education Avenue, which is the road running from the frontage road beside Loves to the new elementary, is about ¼ a mile long. The City of Magee only received the final piece of the deed to that road Tuesday night, July 18th. Magee has not even owned that road all these months; therefore, no city work could begin on that road. Paving isn’t cheap and finding funds for projects is tough.

16-20 buses will travel from Magee Middle School to Magee Elementary twice a day. The busses leaving the Middle School will travel on 1st Street by the First Baptist Church continue through the 5 ways stop, cross over the Railroad track and follow 1st all the way to the intersection where the Entergy building is located take a right on Rebecca Avenue then a left on to Goodwater Road. All buses will be loaded and unloaded at the back of the school building. Cars will not be allowed at the back of the building.

The elementary school site is approximately 32.7 acres.

The posted speed limit on Goodwater Road is 25 MPH.

I’m just going to keep on learning and sharing.

Check out Loves…opened Thursday. Loves is a 24/7 store!

This is exciting for the teachers and students at Magee Elementary. They deserve this.
