Two SCTC Students Take First Place at SkillsUSA State Championship

Simpson County Technical Center (SCTC) is proud to announce that two of its students recently took first place awards at the Mississippi SkillsUSA State Championship at the Mississippi Trade Mart and Coliseum in Jackson.

Competing against other career and technical education students from across the state, first-year SCTC metal fabrication students Colt Sorey and Jody Stevens were recognized as Gold recipients in their respective categories – the highest honor a contestant can achieve.

Sorey won Gold for placing first in Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Turning Specialist. He is a 10th grader at Mendenhall High School.

Stevens won Gold for placing first in Sheet Metal. He is an 11th grader at Mendenhall High School.

The SkillsUSA Championships are career competition events showcasing the best career and technical education students in the nation. Contests begin locally and continue through the state and national levels.

Advancing to the SkillsUSA National Championship, Sorey and Stevens will travel to Atlanta in June to compete against other students from across the nation.

Skills USA is a career and technical student organization serving more than 300,000 students across the country. I’s goals are to ensure the country has a skilled workforce.
