Two Band students from the Simpson Central School Band were selected recently to participate in the All American Cities Honor Band Festival held in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The All American Cities Honor Band is in its fifteenth year and is a co-operative effort of the Tuscaloosa Area Band Directors’ Association and the University of Alabama Band Department, and has traditionally attracted the top middle school band students from Alabama, Mississippi and Georgia. This year’s event was held on March 24 – 25, 2017.  The students participated in a weekend of auditions and rehearsals with the event concluding with a concert at Northridge High School in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.
Students who were selected to participate were Janiya Mackey on Contra-Alto Clarinet and Vontrel Johnson on Trombone. In addition Janiya Mackey was selected as first chair on Contra-Alto Clarinet while Vontrel Johnson placed 4th on the Trombone.  Guest clinician for the Band was Mr. David Caddell, Director of the Echols Middle School Band from Northport, Alabama. The Simpson Central School principals are Dr. Antionette Woodall and Joseph Hanna. The SCS Band director is Charles Price.
