Trojans Win Big on Homecoming

Homecoming Court was not the only ones all smiles Friday, October 5, 2018, as the Trojans defeated Raleigh.

Magee won the toss and deferred the ball until the second half. Captains for the night game were 3 – Javo Thurman, 6 – Jayln Lee, 50 – Jalen Franks, and 76 – Mayko Mendez.

Raleigh took opening kick off from the 10-yard line and returned the ball 90-yards for a touchdown on the first play of the game. The point after attempt was not good. Lions led by a score of 6-0. Magee took over on their 35-yard line and had a good drive with both passing and running. #13, Matthew Thurman, for Magee scored on a 28-yard touchdown pass with 10:06 in the fist quarter. The point after attempt was good. Magee led by a score of 7-6. Magee kicked off to Raleigh and Raleigh mishandled the kickoff and #13, Thurman, for Magee recovered the fumble. On fourth down and five yards to go Magee went for the first down and picked up the needed yardage. #5, Ross McInnis, for Magee would run the ball in end zone from 1 yard out to score. The point after attempt was good and Magee increased the score 14-6. Later in the quarter Magee had an interception retuned for a touchdown only to be called back for a flag. #5, McInnis, for Magee scored on a 1-yard touchdown run. The point after attempt was blocked. Magee led by a score of 20-6 to end the first quarter.

Second quarter #2, Chandler Pittman, from Magee scored on a 8-yard touchdown run, The point after attempt was faked with holder attempting a pass but was broken up by Raleigh. Magee still led by a score 26-6. Raleigh had a fourth down and five yard to go for a first from Magee 12-yard line and threw a touchdown pass. Two-point conversion was intercepted by #2, Pittman. Magee was on top by a score of 26-12. Magee had a promising drive and on fourth and five went for the first down on the ten-yard line and did not make it.

Homecoming festivities took place during halftime with the student body electing Aalyia Walker as homecoming queen.

Magee would get the ball second half and started on Raleigh 49-yard line and drove the ball down the field. #3, Thurman, for Magee scored on a 9-yard touchdown. A fake extra point was no good. Magee led by a score of 33-12. Magee would answer again quickly. #19 Sam Rials, for the Trojans attempted a 38-yard filed goad and was good. Magee increased the score 35-12. Raleigh found the end zone one more time for the evening on a 65-yard touchdown pass. Two-point conversion was not good. Magee led by a score of 35-18.

Fourth quarter Magee would score one more time on the night on a 15-yard touchdown reception. Magee ran a trick play when the running back passed the ball to the quarter back who threw the ball to #1. The ball was tipped but #1,Josh Sanders, caught the ball in the end zone to score. The point after attempt was good and Magee led by a score of 42-18. Second string would see playing time late in the fourth quarter. Trojans would see a new face under center when #35, Thomas Dyess, came in as the quarter back. As time would expire on the clock Trojans would walk away with a victory on Homecoming night by a score of 42-18.

Magee will be on the road next week traveling to St. Andrews.
