Treasurer Lynn Fitch and College Savings Mississippi Announce Scholarship Winners
from Across State

Jackson, MS. State Treasurer Lynn Fitch and College Savings Mississippi served as the official halftime sponsor at the GridIron Classic State Football Championship this weekend at the Vaught-Hemingway Stadium at the University of Mississippi in Oxford.

“As the mother of three, including one about to head off to college, I know how daunting that looming cost of college can seem,” said Treasurer Lynn Fitch. “I’m thrilled to have the chance to help these six Mississippians save for college expenses. We all win when Mississippi students can get a good education without an overwhelming debt.”

A total of 12 contestants were given the opportunity to win a $529 Mississippi Affordable College Savings (MACS) program scholarship. Two contestants competed during halftime at each of the six championship games, throwing 30 footballs into a target. The scholarship was awarded to the contestants who hit the target most in 30 seconds.

The six winners were:

Class 1A Game: Kendall Jenkins of Oxford, MS

  • Class 2A Game: Ally Alford of Batesville, MS
  • Class 3A Game: Armond Fairley of Cordova, TN
  • Class 4A Game: Lakendrick Spann of Macon, MS
  • Class 5A Game: Eduardo Rangel of Philadelphia, MS
  • Class 6A Game: Jeremiah Dumas of Starkville, MS

MACS is one of two college savings programs offered through College Savings Mississippi, a division of State Treasurer Fitch’s office. It is a 529 plan that offers both federal and state tax advantages to help families save for college education.
