At approximately 11:30 p.m. on October 10, 2026, Covington County deputies were notified by dispatch that Collins Police Department officers were at Covington County Hospital with a man who had been shot. Deputies arrived and observed medical staff performing CPR on the victim. Hospital staff later advised that Germaine Hubbard had died.
During interviews, witnesses told investigators that they had been traveling on Collins Spencer Road near Highway 84 in Covington County when a silver car stopped in the roadway. Witnesses reported hearing gunfire and said that three individuals got out of the car and fired at their vehicle. They then drove Hubbard to the hospital.
Witnesses also reported that a firearm had been taken from one of them at a gas station earlier that evening. They said they were traveling to a residence to try to recover it when they encountered the silver car.
The investigation identified Zyquarian O’Neal Magee, also known as “Zy” or “30,” and Tagan Dontrell Barnes, also known as “T-Rock,” as suspects. A juvenile was also identified as a suspect; the juvenile’s name is not being released in this statement.
The investigation remains ongoing. The Sheriff’s Office will release additional information as it becomes available and appropriate for release.
