TRAFFIC ADVISORY:
Flooding impacting roads in North Mississippi

WHO: The Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT).
WHAT: MDOT is monitoring flooding as a result of heavy rainfall. MDOT is coordinating with officials to assess potential road closures in all areas that could be affected.
Flooding is a top weather related killer. Most flood deaths occur at night when people become trapped in a stalled vehicle in a flooded area. Following these safety measures can help ensure you and your family’s safety on flooded roadways:
• Avoid already flooded areas. A flowing stream can carry a vehicle downstream.
• Never drive through a flooded area. Always remember to TURN AROUND, DON’T DROWN!
• If you are driving at night, be especially cautious as it is harder to recognize flood conditions.
• Never drive around a barricaded road.
• If your vehicle stalls, abandon it immediately and seek higher ground. Rising water can engulf a vehicle and its occupants.
MDOT crews will continue to monitor the potential for flooding and maintain the safety of motorists in the affected counties.
The public is asked to report flooded roadways that could impact travel to local law enforcement agencies. Stay updated with live travel information at MDOTtraffic.com or download the MDOT Traffic mobile.

WHERE: Currently, flooding has impacted the following roads in North Mississippi.
• State Route 334 between County Road 461 and County Road 451 in Lafayette County.
• State Route 328 between a half mile west of State Route 7 and County Road 321 in Lafayette County.
• State Route 3 at Getwell Drive in Quitman County.
• State Route 322 between Walnut Road and Bellview Road in Quitman County.
• U.S. Highway 49 at Hoard Lake Road, one mile north of Drew, in Sunflower County.
• U.S. Highway 49 at Minot Street, one mile north of Parchman, in Sunflower County.
• State Route 32 at Wright Road, one mile east of Parchman, in Sunflower County.
• State Route 370 between County Road 737 and County Road 651 in Tippah County.
