MDOT Maintenance Technicians Roger Smith and Thomas Haik install delineators on US Highway 49 East at the Holmes/Leflore county line. Delineators are markers that help identify the path of a roadway when it’s covered by flood waters.

Most flood deaths occur at night and when people become trapped in automobiles that stall in areas that are flooded. If a vehicle stalls in flood waters, abandon it immediately and seek higher ground. The rising water may engulf the vehicle and trap the occupants inside.
