Turnovers dominate the night for Magee

A large attendance with standing room only was on hand for the 95th Simpson County Superbowl! Both teams and fans seemed to be pumped and ready for football.

Captains for the night game for Magee were #5, Ross McInnis, #6 Jalyn Lee, #17 Matthew Thurman, #52 K D Dampeer, and #10 Zac Hall. Serving as captains for Mendenhall were #5 Michael Simmons, #3 Montreal Walker, #5 Zadarious Duckworth #6 Christian Allen, and #19 Ken McGrudee.

Mendenhall won the toss and deferred the ball until second half. Trojans seemed to be on fire and ready for action first half. Magee crossed the goal line first with 8:59 in first half.  #10 Zac Hall came with a great block punt and Magee recovered the ball and capitalized on the play to score. The point after attempt was no good on a bad snap. Magee lead by a score of 6-0.

Mendenhall wasted no time in answering Magee. With 5:31 left in the first quarter, Mendenhall’s #6 Christian Allen scored on a 9 yard run. The two point conversion was no good when Magee dropped Mendenhall for a loss on the play.

With 47 minutes remaining in the first quarter, Magee added to the lead with a 25-yard field goal by #19 Sam Rials. Magee increased the lead by a score of 9-6.

Magee fumbled the ball on their 45 yard line. Magee got the ball back when Mendenhall fumbled the ball. Magee recovered on Mendenhall’s 33-yard line.

6:07 left in the second quarter #5 Ross McInnis for Magee scored. The point after attempt was no good and Magee would lead by a score of 15-6.

Christian Allen #6 for Mendenhall would find the end zone once more for Mendenhall. Two-point conversion was no good. Mendenhall closed the gap and brought the score to Magee 15, Mendenhall 12. Late in Second quarter, Mendenhall went for the first on 4th down only to be stooped by the Trojans on their own 45 yard line. Mendenhall in turn would stop Magee on 4th and fifteen to turn the ball back over to Mendenhall. With :44 seconds left in first half, Mendenhall scored on the 56-yard touchdown run. Two point conversion was no good Mendenhall would lead by a score of 18-15. As halftime expired, Magee scored on a 34-yard filed goal by Sam Rails to end the half. Score was tied at half 18-18.

Mendenhall made needed adjustments at half and  dominated the entire second half. Mendenhall punted to Magee on opening drive.  Magee fumbled the punt. Mendenhall got the ball back and with 7:40 left in third quarter Mendenhall  capitalized on the turnover and score. Two-point conversion was no good. Mendenhall led by a score of 24-18 and  never looked back. Magee fumbled on first play of next possession on their own 33-yard line. With 7:20 left in third quarter,the  Mendenhall scored on a 33-yard touchdown run. Two point conversion was not good. Mendenhall led by a score of 32-18. Magee turned the ball over again on an intercepted pass. Mendenhall returned the ball to the Magee 36-yard line. With 6:00 left in the third quarter, Mendenhall found their favorite place of the night the end zone yet one more time. The two-point conversion was not good and Mendenhall was up by a score of 38-18. Magee fumbled snap on punt and turned the ball over again. With 2:03 left in third quarter, #6 Christian Allen for Mendenhall scored on a 1-yard touchdown run. Two-point conversion was good Mendenhall poured more salt into Magee’s wounds by increasing final score to 46-18.

Mendenhall dominated the second quarter and rightfully walked away Simpson County Superbowl Champions.
