With their season on the line Friday, Mize delivered under pressure. The Bulldogs survived a tense postseason showdown with a 2-0 victory over East Webster, extending their winning streak to four games.
Mize made history Friday, claiming the MHSAA 2A Baseball State Championship with a 2-0 win over East Webster at Trustmark Park.
The victory secured the Bulldogs’ first state title since 2003 and only the second championship in school history, capping off an unforgettable season for Mize.
Pitcher Trey Myers turned in a dominant performance on the mound, scattering five hits while keeping the Wolverines scoreless. The right-hander continued his recent stretch of consistency, marking his fourth straight appearance without allowing more than two walks.
Offensively, Mize leaned on a balanced attack as six different players recorded hits. Parker Himmel led the way, finishing 2-for-4 with both RBIs in the contest. It was Himmel’s highest hit total since April. Hendrix Magee also contributed with his first triple of the season.
The victory improved Mize to 31-8 on the year. For East Webster, the loss snapped an 18-game home winning streak and dropped the Wolverines to 35-9.
Holder McAlpin threw a no-hitter in game 1 for Mize!
McAlpin was named the MVP for the tournament.
