Community Groups, such as daycares, churches, institutions etc ,will be allowed to rent the pool on Wednesday mornings 9:00 AM-10:30 AM and 10:30 AM- 12:00 PM. Contact City Hall for pricing information @ 601-849-3344.

The pool is located at 120 5th Street SE near the new walking track.

In case you have not visited the pool and walking track area…take a ride! The facility is lovely.

From Sue: I taught swimming for years and years…and here is some advice from an “old” swimming teacher.
Do not expect your child to learn if the only exposure your child has to water is a lesson. Before putting your child in swimming lessons, take he or she to the pool and just play. Allow the child to become accustomed to the pool and the area.
One of the best ways to begin to teach your child to put their head under the water is put them in the shower! Yes, that is what I said…give them a shower rather than a bath. The water flowing into their face can be a great teaching method right in your home.
Put your child…even “swimmers” in swimming lessons. Just getting across the pool isn’t swimming…learn the strokes…learn the skills of a good swimmer.
I am often asked about teaching a young child to swim. I began teaching Dickey at age 6 months…I’m not so sure I would do that now…but the most important aspects at this point is not how to swim but how to get out of the pool. Help your child learn to “crawl” over the ledge onto the flat surface surrounding the pool.
If you are scared of the water, keep your mouth shut and find someone who will work with your child.
We are so fortunate in Magee to have a public pool and the opportunity for lessons.
Happy swimming!
