Sue Garner Bishop, 81, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 25, 2016. Memorial service: 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 6 at Lakewood Village, 5100 Randol Mill Road, Fort Worth, Allen Luker officiating. Interment: She will be laid to rest at Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in a private ceremony.

Sue was born on Aug. 4, 1934, on a farm outside Magee, Miss. She loved to read, enjoyed playing basketball and excelled in school. Sue was an early caregiver, helping take care of her mother and siblings as their mother was ill. She also enjoyed teaching Sunday school. Upon graduation from Magee High School, she moved to Mobile and then Huntsville, Ala., working in insurance and then the U.S. Army Missile Command. After moving to Arlington in 1969, she was an award-winning residential real estate sales agent and broker. Sue enjoyed fishing, gardening, musical concerts, plays, arts in general and loved those possessed with a creative spirit. She and her husband were early members of New World United Methodist Church in Arlington and established great friendships there. Sue’s skill as a caregiver returned when, in the midst of her own illness, she lovingly cared for her husband during his final years. She was a devoted wife and nurturing mother, and was known for her bright mind, tender heart, positive approach to life, and congenial way with others. Sue was predeceased in death by husband, Army Major Kenneth Leroy Bishop; parents, John Madison Garner and Geneva Jones Garner; brothers, Kenneth Garner and Bob Harold Garner; half-sisters, Elna C. Kennedy, Irene Cooper and Estelle Eugene Cooper; and half-brother, Willard Garner.

Survivors: Include her son, Robin Garner Givens (Murat) of San Francisco, Calif.; brother, Tom Henry Garner (Jo) of Clinton, Miss.; sisters, Fay Anderson and Nelda Ruth Anderson of Magee, Miss.; and many nieces and nephews.
