In 2001 the legislature asked the citizens of Mississippi to choose their flag. The overwhelming majority of people choose the 1894 flag.
I do not believe the legislature should overrule a vote made by the people. If the people of Mississippi want to change their flag then they should have the opportunity to voice their opinion by voting for or against changing the flag.
If it comes to a vote, I will NOT vote to suspend the rules of the House to take up a bill to change the flag.
Legislators have asked to take up this issue every year for the past four years that I’ve been in the legislature. Every year we are told that it is not an issue we are going to discuss. Now, during a Pandemic, during a time of civil unrest, and while terrorist groups are destroying cities and monuments our leadership decides we need to rush a vote on the flag. Rushing a vote is poor judgement, every time we rush to make a decision it turns out to be a bad decision.
I will fight for your voice and against the back-room deals being made to sway legislators. I will not sell my vote for SEC football tickets or campaign contributions. I believe the people are smarter than the politicians in Jackson, MS.

I want your opinion
Click the link below to let me know your opinion on the flag.  Decisions are being made without considering what you want.  I want to be your voice.
