JACKSON, MS – The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks (MDWFP) encourages families to start the new year on a healthy and fun note by attending First Day Hikes on January 1, 2026. Select Mississippi State Parks will offer guided hikes, refreshments, and activities for participants of all ages.
First Day Hikes is a nationwide program spearheaded by America’s State Parks to promote outdoor activity. The initiative coordinates hundreds of free, guided hikes across all 50 states every New Year’s Day, providing a perfect opportunity to experience the natural beauty of state parks.
MDWFP encourages all participants to share their adventures by tagging us on social media or using #FirstDayHikes and #YourStateParks.
Make the outdoors part of your New Year’s tradition. Start planning your First Day Hike at a Mississippi State Park today. Find a participating park near you at- https://www.mdwfp.com/first-day-hikes.
For more information about Mississippi State Parks, visit www.mdwfp.com/parks-destinations or call (601) 432-2400. Follow us on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/msstateparks or Instagram at https://www.instagram.com/msstateparks/
The mission of the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries, and Parks is to conserve and enhance Mississippi’s wildlife, fisheries, and parks; provide quality outdoor recreation, and engage the public in natural resource conservation.
